University student’s perception of translation teaching in a virtual environment

Abstract

As a result of the crisis caused by COVID-19, university courses were forced to adapt their classes for the 2019-2020 academic year to the virtual world. The Bachelor’s Degree in Translation and Interpreting was no exception, so both teachers and students had to adapt to an environment to which they were not accustomed. The main objective of our study was to collect the degree of student satisfaction with e-learning in the area of Translation and Interpreting according to their perception of the limitations and positive aspects. The questionnaires consisted of five sections with a total of 30 statements on general data, technical means, virtual environment and atmosphere, teaching-learning process and general well-being on which the students had to give their opinion, reflecting their assent or rejection on a Likert scale. A total of 246 questionnaires were collected. The main results reveal that students are not entirely satisfied with the virtual classes and the factors that may have influenced this issue are noted, so that we can learn as much as possible from the experience of virtualization pandemic when designing virtual and blended learning university education.
