Abstract

Concerning intellectual disability, the most recent research evidence the importance of an adequate diagnostic evaluation considering the three criteria: significant limitations in IQ and adaptive behavior, besides presenting before 18 years. It is the second criterion, adaptive behaviors, that has taken on greater relevance in recent years. The objective of this theoretical review article is to provide an updated bibliographic synthesis with the main findings regarding evaluation instruments to measure adaptive behavior in people with intellectual disabilities. The sample was obtained from a search of articles of the last 10 years in the metasearch engine EBSCOhost using the keywords: Adaptative behavior, intellectual disability, evaluation. The results are presented through graphs and summary tables of each investigation, to finally detail the main findings. As an analysis, discussion is generated about the relevance of evaluating adaptive behavior in individuals with intellectual disability to generate a support plan according to their individual needs.
