An introduction to the appendix “De esse et exsistere creatis” by Alfonso Briceño O.F.M. (1587-1668)

Abstract

This article discusses the appendix “De esse et exsistere creatis” wrote by Alfonso Briceño OFM (1587-1668.) That text discusses a reception of the distinction and the interpretive inconsistencies on the theme of essence from a Scotist perspective. I will present some bio-bibliographic data about the author, followed by a basic structure of the appendix, and finally I present the Briceño’s argument to clarify Pedro Hurtado's position on the relation between essence and existence.
