Word of God and hermeneutics. Results and Prospects in Latin America
Main Article Content
Abstract
The Word of God and hermeneutics have become a coordinating center for theology since the II Vatican Council. This article provides a balanced perspective on the history of the stages in the development of this topic in modern times, with special emphasis on our continent. We begin by considering as a main turning point, the entry of modernity produced by the collapse of scholastic metaphysics and the adoption of scientific method in twentieth century theology. In dialogue with modernity theology has assumed modern categories in the development of its thinking. The constitution Dei Verbum and writing on the interpretation of the Bible in the Church are clear example of this dialogue with modernity. In Latin America this dialogue also assumes the irruption of the poor in theological discourse as shown by the Episcopal Conferences of the continent.
