Memory supports On ruins and vestiges 50 years after the coup in Chile

Abstract

The following text examines on the one hand, the temporal structure of the ruins, trying to design in this examination their memorial power. It is postulated that the temporal structure of the ruinous goes far beyond the dimension of a watertight past, in which the supposed opacity and mutism of the ruins would rest. Rather, we try to think of the ruin as a dynamic temporal support that mobilizes a past, but in whose temporality dwells
the latency of a future. On the other hand, we suggest here a route to think some ruinous devices of the recent past in Chile. This articulation of the motif of ruins with a precise moment in Chilean history seeks, finally, to contribute to the reflections on the 50th anniversary of the civil-military coup d’état in our country.
