Abstract
The objective was to verify the effects of adapted judo training (AJT) on bone mineral density (BMD), balance and strength related care of a elderly man with osteoporosis in pharmacological treatment. The evaluation instruments: Dual Energy’s Absorptiometry, static balance, sittingrising and flexion-arm strength tests were used. The AJT had duration of 12 months. The results reveal that AJT can help in the maintenance of DMO of the Lumbar (L2-L4 ∆% = 2%) and trochanter (∆% =0.5%), to improve the strength of superior member (∆% = 83.3%) and inferior member (∆% = 50%), besides the balance (∆% = 17.4%). It is concluded for one case, that AJT combined with alendronate and Vit D3 may possibly contribute to the maintenance of BMD and improvements in the strength variables.
