Conceptual Level of Knowledge of the Contents in the Field of Physical Education of Students of the City of Nm4 Talca

Abstract

There are several measuring instruments for the quality and standards of education in Chile. One of the most representative tests is the SIMCE, which is applied to students in 4th and 8th grade elementan, education, and 2nd year secondary education in the Language, Mathematics and Social and Natural Science subjects. In spite of the aboye, in the Physical Education subsector, no standardised assessments are implemented to measure the theoretical knowledge about the subject. Hence, a Physical Education knowledge test is applied in this investigation. This test was designed by the Faculty of Physical Education of the Playa Ancha University in Valparaíso (C. Oliva, 2004). The test is targeted at measuring the level of knowledge regarding-Physical Education contents in 4th year secondary education students in municipal schools. In carrying out the test, all 4th year students from schools run by the City Council of Talca were considered. The population was N = 2387, out of which a random sample of n = 331 (13, 86°4) was selected, statistically determined with a reliability level of 95% and an acceptable error of 5%. Among the major findings are, firstly, that the neurobehavioral arca reached the highest level of knowledge (33.53% of the total with students in the High and Very High levels of knowledge) and the lowest result was in the Activities (1,21%); on the other hand, the subject areas dealing with Motor Activities related to Contact with Nature and Adventure were the ones that reached thehighest level of knowledge (12.39%). Lastly, considering the total results, it can be concluded that the level of knowledge among the 4th year students from schools run by the City Council of Talca is low.
